Delivering unique data
As some people’s issues are caused by eating quickly, the smart glasses automatically detect chewing, tracking meal times, durations, and detailed metrics such as chews per bite. This offers insights that are unavailable on other platforms.
Simplifying food logging
The glasses log meals with one click using the glasses’ built-in camera. The glasses can even remind the wearer to take a picture when they detect chewing, ensuring a complete and accurate food diary.
Providing actionable insights
The platform can be configured to send concise tips to eat better and more mindfully, based on the collected data and meal images.
More comprehensive data
The dietitian gains access to an in-depth overview of eating habits, enabling them to offer more personalised and effective coaching.
For the clients
OCOsense glasses are designed to collect crucial data to aid assessment and monitoring. Data is saved to the client's mobile app which relays it to the dietitian's dashboard. We are focused on providing data in four major areas:
Eating behaviour data: The glasses automatically detect chewing actions, recording the time and duration of meals, and detailed metrics like chews per bite.
Consumption data: Upon detecting chewing, the glasses' camera captures an image of the plate, and an algorithm analyses the meal’s composition and calorie content.
Activity data: Built-in sensors determine whether the wearer is sedentary or active and, if active, assess the intensity of the activity to estimate energy expenditure.
Mindful data: The sensors evaluate head position and head movement, offering insights into the wearer’s mindfulness state.
For the dietitian
With the dietitians' guidance and the platform’s recommendations, clients can leverage this data to cultivate healthier eating and activity habits.
The dashboard facilitates this process with a summary page that highlights client’s data on food consumption, eating behaviour and level of activity.

The dashboard also offers a summary page for each client, which is useful for remote monitoring and to prepare for consultations.

The Science behind our technology
Our initial data selection draws on contemporary scientific research.

Eating behaviour research
Studies show that rapid eating correlates with higher Body Mass Index (BMI). Similarly, an increased number of chews (or decreased chewing rate) is associated with a reduction in food consumption. Therefore, controlling the pace of eating could help in managing weight.
Monitoring eating rate and chewing rate is the first step in modifying the behaviour. Also, as the glasses measure the wearers head position, dietitians will have unique insights into distracted eating.
Traditional methods, like food diaries, fail to capture data accurately due to inherent biases and frequent omissions. Our recent survey shows that 75% of the respondents forget to log some of their meals. With automatic picture when chewing is detected, and with automatic calorie calculation, the burden for the client is reduced.
Finally, the link between physical activity and effective weight management is well-documented, emphasizing the importance of monitoring both sedentary and active states.
