Embedded C Firmware Engineer (Hybrid)

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware for our new SMART glasses wearable technologies.
  • Work alongside Electronics and Software developers to develop our research prototype into a production product.
  • Support firmware driver and bring-up on the next and future hardware iterations, provide ideas and diagnostics to optimise power and performance.
  • Work as part of a multi-skilled Agile team to deliver value to our customers.
  • Perform software tests through unit tests, simulation, and automated testing.
  • Share your own knowledge and listen to feedback from other team players, as part of a growing team.

You Will
You will be working as part of the Wearables Team at Emteq Labs, developing firmware for our wearable devices. This role requires you to work autonomously and design future embedded systems alongside in-house electronics engineers, product designers and software developers. In this role you will report to the head of the Wearables Team. As a member of this growing team, you have opportunity to evolve and expand in a wide array of software and firmware development disciplines.

Although the role is primarily remote, the nature of supporting the physical hardware requires you to periodically come in the office. This is encouraged for 2 day a week negotiable and will be based out of our office in Brighton.


  • Degree in a Computer Software Science, Embedded Systems Engineering or other comparable experience.
  • Strong C programming skills and understanding of development best practices.
  • Experience in embedded software systems.
  • Experience using Arm micro-controllers.
  • Knowledge of BLE wireless communications.
  • Knowledge of data buses (I2C, SPI, serial interfaces, USB and QSPI).
  • Understanding of Agile development practices and tools (Scrum).
  • Ability to communicate and present results and ideas (Fluent in English).

Great to Have

  • Strong C++ programming skills.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python).
  • Experience with the Nordic nRF52 SDK.
  • Knowledge of MCU power management.
  • Experience in the field of signal processing or sensor fusion algorithm development.
  • Experience of DevOps concepts such as Continuous Integration, build systems, CMake, Git, and GitHub.
  • Hands on experience of time critical embedded firmware.
